can someone suggest some in rack (not to be confused with in row) cooling mechanisms? we used to use regular cooling fans for handling hot spots. but now, it's just getting in our way. we want to do away with it and bring in more effective hot spot containers
Fan panels for mounting on racks are available from a number of manufacturers, including Eaton and Tripp-Lite (search for server rack fans). APC and Emerson both offer fairly inexpensive door-sized fan arrays that mount to the rear of a rack to increase airflow. More expensive options include Emerson's XDO and XDV units, which mount above the rack for auxiliary cooling, and IBM's and Rittal's rear cooling doors, which cool the server exhaust air using coils filled with cold water or refrigerant.
try distributing the equipments in the room. ensure the devices that produce more heat are balanced with those that don't. you can reduce hot spots this way.
modular cooling systems are known to be the best cure for hot spots. Rittal and Alcatel-Lucent offer in row cooling solutions. they look like fans fitted into the back of the rack.
Your post is awesome. In-Rack is the most precise cooling available, as the rack and the air conditioner operate in a closed relationship with one another. Cold air has no choice but to pass through the servers; hot air has no choice but to pass through the heat exchanger.
In-Rack cooling provides a computing environment-a microclimate-that is thermally neutral to the rest of the room
If you are racks load up to 35 kW of cooling, you need a high density cooling that won’t add heat to your room. The server rack system work maximize cooling efficiency without increasing the floor space. You can add or move cooling modules according to your equipment layout and as your needs grow.
