Default Outdoor Cooling Systems

Has anyone ever used the outdoor cooling systems for their data centers? I know they are to bring cooler air to the building from outside. Their main purpose is to help reduce cooling costs as well as energy used to cool the data centers.

One of the companies I hosted with was to have used this type of process. It was supposed to reduce the energy they used and thus save the company as well as the customers money. I am not sure exactly how the systems work when it is warm outside.
