Task allocation models for data centers

Hi,

I'm a research student and currently I'm looking into building dynamic task allocation models for energy optimization of data centers. I'd like to use a simulation software for testing VM CPU & memory profiles before I start building the models. Could you give me some suggestions on what data center simulation software is best?

As I'm quite new to the data center field, are there any journal articles or books that I might read to get a better understanding of task/application placements in data centers?
