Survey: 75% of data center managers installed DCIM to cut costs
A joint survey undertaken by Intel and Dell has found that almost half of IT managers have little or no idea about what is happening under the hoods of their data centers, since they have not adopted any data center infrastructure management (DCIM) products.
At the same time 75 percent of respondents who have deployed DCIM did it primarily to cut their costs.
The survey discovered that only 53 percent of IT managers use DCIM, despite 44 percent of respondents saying that they experience regular power problems in their data centers and 37 percent admitting that they experience frequent issues with cooling.
The survey also revealed that 62 percent of IT managers use DCIM as a substitute for power management tools within the data center; 51 percent use detailed power monitoring tools where they are provided by DCIM systems; and 64 percent are using DCIM in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly.
